2011 UAB Soccer For A Cure Web Site: The Alabama Children's Hospital, UAB Men's Soccer and Soccer For A Cure have collaborated to create a special web site for this even. Click here to link to this site.

Objective: The objective is to raise awareness of the battle that families deal with daily when a child has cancer. Additionally, we want to raise as much as possible for the Alabama Children's Hospital by asking thousand of families in Alabama to make a modest donations (we suggest $5.00) during or before the UAB Soccer For A Cure Classic in September.

Participating Teams: The 4th annual men's UAB Soccer For A Cure Classic will be played on September 16 and September 18 at UAB. The 4 teams participating will be:

  • University of Alabama - Birmingham
  • Virginia Commonwealth University
  • University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee
  • Gardner Webb University

The UAB Soccer For A Cure Classic was the brain child of Mike Getman, the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) head men's soccer Coach. It has been played on the UAB campus each year since 2008 raising donations for the UAB Children's Hospital in Birmingham, AL.

Soccer For A Cure was launched in 2008 with the objective of raising money through soccer events for families that are struggling financially because a family member is in a battle with cancer.

If you live in or near Birmingham, AL and have a passion for helping families that are in a battle with cancer, please let us know by e-mail to Charlie@SoccerForACure.org. Our goal for the 2011 event, which will be played in September, is to reach out to as many communities in the Birmingham area as possible and invite families to make a modest donation of $5.00 or more to the UAB Hospital through this event.
